Herbert Jennings
Herbert Jennings of
Budleigh Salterton, Devon, made an imaginative but ultimately doomed
attempt to revive excursions first on the Sussex Coast in 1960 and
then at Bournemouth in 1961, attempting to fill the gaps left by
retrenchment by the Campbell and Cosens companies at each station. He
purchased the small paddler Freshwater from British Rail's
Lymington-Yarmouth ferry, renaming her Sussex Queen and then Swanage
Queen in recognition of the markets he was attempting to conquer.
