FOUR SIDE-WHEELERS FROM THE AMAZON built in Hebburn, County Durham, in 1884

Yards on the River Tyne were not noted for their production of paddle steamers with the exception of a considerable output of tugs from the yards of JT Eltringham and JP Rennoldson, both of South Shields.
Perhaps surprisingly, the yard of Andrew Leslie & Co of Hebburn received an order for four passenger paddle steamers for delivery to the Cie. de Navegacao de Para e Amazonas for production in 1884 and river service in Brazil.

Guests were allowed on the temporarily constructed upper deck for the occasion.
