InTramCities with Gordon Stewart : Closed tramway Alignments
Ruda Slaska, Poland
Closure of tracks running north-south through Ruda Slaska from
Bobrek Osiedle Pod Brzozami to Ruda Poladniowa on 14th February.
Photographed on 1st August 2009.
The
single-track line with one passing point running through the
independent town of Ruda Slaska was closed on 14th February 2015 with a
replacement bus service provided. Ruda Slaska is part of the Upper
Silesian urban conglomeration including the towns of Katowice, Bytom
and Zabrze with a large tramway network connecting the many communities
which developed on the Silesian coalfield. Despite the decision to
modernise and generally upgrade the network, the the line alongside Piatowska and
Ulica Wolnosci, with much running in the gutter and causing conflicts with on-coming traffic, was closed.
