Line T2 (photos 1-43) links suburbs around the western edge of the Paris city proper to the enormous La Defense complex (seen in the background from Belvedere, above). It uses a former railway alignment totally rebuilt to provide a modern and efficient light rail service. The Alsthom trams are low floor for much of their length. Platforms allow level access.

Whilst Paris' metro, which once was limited to operations within the City of Paris proper (ie inside the various "Portes"), it has been gradually extended into the suburbs. Tram lines are designed to provide the inner-surburban services not possible with the metro. This tram on T1 provides interchange with the metro at La Courneuve.

Line T1 (photos 44-75) runs around the northern edge of the city from St. Denis to Bobigny. Two trams lay over at the Bobigny terminus at the eastern end of  the line. This was not planned to be the long-term terminus - but only the end of the first first part of a much longer route encircling the entire city of Paris
